S/ART/Q, a circle of artists working to enhance the arts culture in Sarasota, will inaugurate their 2012 exhibition season with THIRTEEN, premiering at G.WIZ Science Museum on Friday, December 9th, 2011.
THIRTEEN will be S/ART/Q’s first exhibition since March 2010 to showcase the group, including its four new artists: Ariana Franco, Amy W. Miller, Jen Nugent and Steve Strenk. With artists working in a wide range of media, from sculpture to painting, installation to kinetic art, the exhibition will provide a dynamic survey of thirteen professional artists living and working in Sarasota, Florida.
When asked what is so unique about S/ART/Q exhibiting for the second time at G.WIZ Science Museum, artist Steve Strenk replied, “This exhibition is designed to encompass new work, new artists and a new year. Furthermore, it’s the group, the deadlines, and the artistic community that are the criteria for exciting and innovative art. S/ART/Q is a circle of artists who redefines the term new. So come enjoy the show, it’s going to be a great one.”

Formed in late 2008, the circle of artists includes Joseph Arnegger, Ariana Franco, Brian Haverlock, Tim Jaeger, Amy W Miller, Daniel Miller, Jen Nugent, Daniel Perales, Steve Strenk, Jeff Schwartz, Nathan Skiles, Sabrina Small and Tom Stephens. S/ART/Q produces roaming/temporary exhibitions, creates educational opportunities in the community while exposing the public to how artists function in society and ultimately enhances the arts culture in Sarasota.

[ September 12, 2011 – Sarasota, Fla. ]

Sarasota Visual Art announces the launch of its new local arts website. Sarasota Visual Art (sVA) is the premier online destination providing in-depth detailed coverage of the visual arts in Sarasota County. Our mission is to provide unparalleled access and distribution to Sarasota’s Visual Arts. sVA offers full exhibition coverage, multimedia exhibition reviews, gallery round-ups, artist profiles, news, listings, and the links everyone needs to know.

Daniel Miller and Tim Jaeger, co-founders of Sarasota Visual Art,established the online resource to provide the Sarasota Community, a higher caliber and coverage of fine art and educational news.  With the rise of social networks, the need for artists and enthusiasts to have a site such as this is very clear to see.

“We felt obligated to provide a resource for any art enthusiast interested in visiting Sarasota or already living in Sarasota, an outlet to find what they want to do with a couple clicks of a button.” “As we continue to add content, we are focusing on providing the tools needed to communicate, relocate, and discover what exists inside of our visual arts community”, says Jaeger.

Hanging in the Balance: Ten Emerging Chinese Artists

August 12 – September 17, 2011
Selby Gallery, Ringling College of Art and Design

The internalized experience of sustained living in two cultures (China, Europe) crates a problematic identity for artists that embraces neither culture but instead seeks resolution through individual rather than cultural modes of their work. Curated by Prof. Qin Jian of Xiamen University, Fujian, China.
