Known for their one-of-a-kind local contemporary art events, Sarasota artist collective S/ART/Q has expanded its group for the first time ever. As elected by S/ART/Q’s current 9 members, four accomplished local professional artists join the current 9 member artist collective, representing a range of creative disciplines, professionalism, and experiences.
The newest members include: Jen Nugent (http://www.jennugent.com), Amy Williamson Miller (http://amywmiller.com), Steve Strenk (http://sstrenk.wordpress.com) and Ariana Franco (no website available).
The collective is excited to start the new season with new faces, and look forward to exhibiting with them for the first time in the upcoming Fall exhibit planned for November 2011. http://sartq.com

Hanging in the Balance: Ten Emerging Chinese Artists
August 12 – September 17, 2011
Selby Gallery, Ringling College of Art and Design
The internalized experience of sustained living in two cultures (China, Europe) crates a problematic identity for artists that embraces neither culture but instead seeks resolution through individual rather than cultural modes of their work. Curated by Prof. Qin Jian of Xiamen University, Fujian, China.
